Full time Accountant required in USA, Davis, CA ($4,366.67-$8,933.33/MO)

Job Description: Reporting to the Division Supervisor, manage capital projects. Establish and maintain the plant funds and accounts, appropriate the budget, monitor budget overdrafts, reconcile the monthly expenditures, and prepare the project for semi‐annual capitalization. Assist with the capitalization of the UC Davis Medical Center plant expenditures. Monitor and reconcile equipment operating and capital lease payments. Conduct inventorial equipment pricing and reconciliation, tracking, capitalization of software and fabrications. Assisting with the semi‐annual financial closing and reporting of capital assets.

Physical Demands:

Sit at a personal computer and extensive keyboard use for extended periods of time.

Work Environment:

Work occasional lunch hours, weekends and holidays. Restricted vacation usage during peak periods including fiscal closing (July).

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related area or equivalent years of experience and/or training.

  • Experience in fund accounting including audit techniques and internal control standards.
  • Skills to manage capital project accounts funded by different funding sources.
  • Thorough Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), theory, practice and standards as they relate to general ledger maintenance and reconciliation and financial statement preparation.
  • Thorough knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) accounting standards related to financial statement preparation. Analytical skills to resolve complex problems that may affect multiple organizations or functions.
  • Decision making skills to review financial information, define issues, and develop strategies to resolve issues.
  • Mathematical skills to calculate and analyze complex financial formulas.
  • Written communication skills to develop training materials, written memos, policies, procedures, etc., and convey them to a diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Knowledge of UC policies and procedures. Knowledgeable of the UC Accounting Manual Knowledge and understanding of university, campus, management principles, philosophy, problems and subject matter.

  • Analytical skills to resolve complex problems that may affect multiple organizations or functions.
  • Technical skills to operate electronic spreadsheet, database, accounting, word processing and electronic mail programs.
  • Planning and organizational skills to establish priorities and meet deadlines.




Full time C&G Accountant required in USA, Irvine, CA ($65,564 - $67,000 a year)

Job Summary: This position is only available to current UCI employees.
The Contracts and Grants Accounting provides UC Irvine faculty and staff with accounting and financial services for externally funded projects. Under the general direction of a Contracts and Grants Assistant Manager, Accountant IV is independently responsible for all high-level accounting and analytical activities for assigned contract and grant funds. Responsibilities include award setups, project allocations, financial reporting and analysis, cash management, timely and accurate Letter of Credit drawdowns and reconciliations for various agencies, timely invoicing and AR monitoring, award closeouts, data warehouse downloads, maintenance of multiple tracking mechanisms and excel spreadsheets, and assistance with fiscal closing activities and audits. Accountant IV completes highly skilled accounting and analytical tasks with clear understanding and knowledge of the complex award processes and regulatory guidelines; and demonstrates the skill and ability to perform award administration, forecasting, evaluating, and prioritizing. Inaccurate and untimely accounting can result in a loss of substantial income to the campus. Required to resolve problems in all areas of responsibility directly with awarding agencies, Sponsored Projects Administration, Principal Investigators, and/or campus departmental administrators. This position routinely interacts with all levels of the campus community, federal, state, and private industry representatives, requiring the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in order to explain policies, regulations, and procedures; and the ability to present facts, finding, conclusions, and recommendations in a clear, concise, and tactful manner. Responsible for providing advice to campus departmental administrators and Principal Investigators regarding University regulatory policies, and agency guidelines. The consequence of errors is enormous if regulatory guidelines and agency policies are not followed (i.e., audit disallowance's and fines). Requires skill in utilizing Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Data Warehouse.

This position requires specialized subject matter expertise and extensive knowledge of a wide range of concepts, including generally accepted accounting principles, governmental accounting standards, federal costing accounting standards and guidelines including Uniform Guidance, federal auditing guidelines, specific policies as set by various federal, state, and private agencies, university-wide and campus academic and staff personnel policies and procedures, university accounting policies and procedures, the financial system, as well as skills in applying this knowledge to the resolution of problems. Requires demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and proven superior skill in problem solving, and the ability to anticipate consequences of decisions; proven comprehensive knowledge of financial standards and demonstrated experience in applying standards to the University practices; and comprehensive knowledge of contracts and grants post award administration and fund accounting.





Full time Sponsored Projects Accountant required in USA, Chapel Hill, NC

Job Summary: The Sponsored Projects Accountant will be responsible for timely and accurate preparation and examination of a variety of financial reports or invoicing for submission to external sponsors that provide funding via contracts, grants, and cooperative agreements. These submissions must be in accordance with the terms and conditions of each award. This position will also assist managers with closeout of projects, prepare and submit journal entries and other forms to post financial data, and provide assistance to University personnel and to sponsoring agencies. This position is responsible for the following: 1. Oversees the billing of sponsored funds due the University. 2. Submit accurate, complete reports or invoices in an efficient, timely manner to various agencies and organizations. 3. Understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures applicable to the processing of financial data; maintenance of financial records, preparation of fiscal reports, and management of funds. 4. Interpret UNC and sponsor regulations and guidelines for fiscal award management and partner with departments in managing their sponsored funding. 5. Maintain current working knowledge of federal regulations, sponsor policies, and UNC policies. The Accountant may focus on Billing (Federal, State, or Private) or Financial Reporting; however, will need to support all of the above functions, as business needs require. The incumbent selected for this position must have very strong analytical abilities, due to the complexity of financial reports and invoices that will be produced, and may be assigned to this position. Anything less than 100% accuracy has the potential to negatively impact future funding, expose the institution to financial risk, and adversely affect UNC?s prestige reputation. Errors resulting in failure to exercise required accuracy would have a grave financial impact and ultimately would erode the credibility of the Office of Sponsored Research as well as cause irreparable harm to the University.

Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate's degree in accounting; or Associate's degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
